Texas is Hot in August

Who knew? And when did they know it?

Texas plagued by heat, drought, water parasite, wildfires

Blah, blah, blah. Maybe Scott would like to weigh in... But note the penultimate sentence in the article:

The Dallas area has recorded 23 triple-digit days so far this year — still well short of the record of 69 in 1980.

So if the Dallas area temperatures reach 3 digits each day until September 18, then it will be as bad a 1980, for which I blame Jimmy Carter, but I digress. What do we have a problem with here, hot weather or journalists strving to create fear and panic for their own selfish ends?

LMAO - I remember 1980. That was the year my daughter was born. We were living in an ancient rent house with one window unit, in the bedroom, and it hardly worked. I don't remember it being particularly horrendous or out of the ordinary, except for a long-ish string of 100+ high-temp days that might have been some kind of record. We spent many nights in the driveway with my pal Greg, keeping all our beater trucks and cars running so we could get to work.

My poor 1st wife - she was 7, 8 & 9 months pregnant that summer. She hardly came out of that bedroom.

I started work at LTV in June of '80 driving an un-airconditioned '68 MGB. Like Scott, I remember it as a fairly usual NE/NC summer until the 110+ streak of days. Though it was the first time I'd ever seen an arpartment A/C run for more than 24 hours straight...
