Pelosi Supports 'Fairness Doctrine'

Well, duh. And since she's in charge, guess who gets to decide what's fair?

Obama Does Not Support Return of Fairness Doctrine

Well, duh. Could you imagine if Big Media were forced to to postpone their adoration of Lord Hope, the Marquis of Change to give John McCain equal time? But who wouldn't pay money to hear Chris Matthews say, "We interrupt this funny feeling in my leg to bring you equal time for John McCain"?

I wouldn't like to see the return of the Fairness Doctrine, but I worked in television when it was in force and I recall that it only required equal time to other views. It didn't require a point-by-point rebuttal of anything, unless that's what the folks who claimed the right to respond wanted to do. In practice, at least at the station where I worked, local citizens groups didn't demand use of the equal time. But that was in the 1970s. I suppose they would today, and might want to do a point-by-point. Then, as before, I suppose, the main worry would be whether stations would allow themselves to be subjected to all this by airing controversy in the first place.
